I WAS having a moan about something recently and was told that I'm turning into a right Victor Meldrew.
Not Louis Walsh or Jack Dee, straight to Victor Meldrew, the king of grumps. Surely I'm not that bad? I mean, I've only passed a few comments on things like:
The weather; it's just so cold just right now. And if it's not cold, it's wet. I'm all for getting out for some exercise, but in this weather you'd be more likely to come back with hypothermia. However, driving in this weather means forever having to scrape the windscreen, and then it gets filthy because of the grit on the roads and can't be cleaned because the washers are frozen.
And on the subject of the roads; why are there so many cars on them at the moment? And why do they always seem to be going to the same place as me? Endless streams of traffic make pulling out of junctions almost impossible, and every car park is overflowing, all the time.
And the drivers of the cars; whatever stretch of road I'm on, I always seem to be stuck behind someone going far to slow, or have someone up my rear end wanting to go far too fast. And then at the first slight wisp of mist, I get blinded by fog lights. They never seem to get turned off again either, maybe the driver thinks they look cool.
At least I can get home and relax in front of the telly. No. The news annoys me. I have sat in front of the screen shouting the solutions to crime, transport and money problems at politicians. If only they'd listen, the country would be back on its feet in no time.
But I would bet that I'm not the only person to be thinking most of those things most days. So if that makes me a Victor Meldrew, then there must be quite a lot of us out there. Sales of flat caps and raincoats could be about to soar. All together now: “I don't believe it!”
I'll talk to you on the 96.7 West FM Breakfast Show, Monday to Friday from 6am. And don't forget to keep listening for details on more great competitions as we get closer to Christmas. There are helicopter flights up for grabs, and you could even win cash with the Ayr Central money tree!
