AFC Dreghorn have quit playing in only their second season in the Ayrshire Amateur leagues.
The club had a barn-storming first season, finishing second in the Fourth Division before being promoted to the Second Division after a re-organisation of the leagues due to a number of teams failing to apply in time for the current campaign.
But there have been rumours that all was not well since secretary Stan Young resigned and took up a post with Troon four months ago and matters came to a head last week.
Dreghorn have payed four times since the start of this year, only managing a 1-1 draw wth Kilmarnock on February 2 before going down 5-0 to Stewarton in their final match a week later.
A spokesman for the Ayrshire Amatuer Football Association said the Association had reluctantly accepted the resignation of AFC Dreghorn and all the club’s registered players have had their registration cancelled with effect from Friday, February 15.
As the club’s resignation had been accepted prior to March 1, there will still be two clubs relegated from the Second Division and the league table had been adjusted to reflect Dreghorn’s resignation.
