TEN swimmers from North Ayrshire Amateur Swim Club (NAASC) competed at the two-day REN96 Graded Meet Johnstone Pool last week.
Swimmers competed in age groups 8-10, 11-12 13-14 and 15 and over, with races at 50m,100m and 200m butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and 100m, 200m and 400m individual medley (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle) and 400m freestyle.
Connor Tarran (10) set personal bests in all his five events, winning gold in the 50m butterfly, bronze in the 100m breaststroke, and also coming fourth in the 100m IM and backstroke as well as a fine tenth in the 100m freestyle.
Kilwinning’s Adam Kirkwood (12),won gold in the 400m IM with a massive PB and a bronze in the 200m breaststroke.
Meredith Scott (10) was on trial with the Senior Squad, setting PBs in her three races and winning silver in the 100m butterfly. She also finished fourth place in the 100m IM and fifth in the 100m backstroke.
Rookie Elodie Pollet (10), set PBs in the 50m and 100m freestyle and did well in the 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke.
Jenna Hambleton (8) set a PB in the 8-10 breaststroke while Rebecca Weir (10) came fourth in the 50m breaststroke, seventh in the 100m breaststroke and recorded PBs in the 50m backstroke and freestyle.
Ten-year-old Abbie Freeman from Kilwinning, who was on trial with the senior squad, swam in four races, finishing seventh in the 50m freestyle, eighth with a PB in the 100m freestyle and ninth in the 50m backstroke, with a PB, and 50m breaststroke.
Stevenston’s Evan Clark came fourth in the 50m breaststroke, fifth in the 100m freestyle, sixth in the 50m backstroke and seventh in the 50m freestyle – both with PBs – while Craig Erentz (10) swam consistently well in his events and finished tenth in the 50m breaststroke and swam in the 100m IM, 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke setting PBs in all four and the 50m freestyle.
His little brother Ross (8), swimming in just his second gala, set a PB in the 50m breaststroke and put up a great show in his first crack at the 50m freestyle.
Some of these swimmers are relative newcomers to competitions and many recorded PBs in their races.
