IRVINE Rugby Club are about to embark on a year-long programme of events to mark the 50th anniversary of the club’s founding.
The celebrations kick off with the annual Sportsmans Dinner which, this year, is being held in the Volunteer Rooms on Friday, June 1 and features guest speakers John McKelvie and Bill Copeland.
Tickets, £30 each and £300 for a table of ten, can be ordered from Gary Auld at 01294 313644.
Two very special games of rugby are being held on Saturday, August 11 when firstly a team of legendary Irvine past players will take on an Ayrshire Legends side, and that’s followed by another game with the current Marress squad testing their strength against a team still to be finalised.
Former players wishing to take part on the day should contact the club or any committee member, further details to follow as soon as they become available.
Probably the main highlight will be the final event of the Centenary Year, a Gala Lunch Irvine Sports Club on Saturday, November 3.
The club have requested a home game on that date which, fittingly, coincides with the time Irvine Rugby Club started playing competitive matches, and plans to invite all founder members, honorary members, past presidents and past captains to the event.
If you fall into any of the above categories please contact the club with your contact details, phone number or e-mail address so you can receive full details.
As ever the ladies of Irvine Rugby Club have stated their intention to become involved and a Gala Ball has been suggested. This will probably be held in the Volunteer Rooms in the spring of 2013, watch the club website for further details.
The celebrations will be rounded off with the annual Sportsmans Dinner, again in the Volunteer Rooms in June of next year.
Once more further details will be posted on the club website.
