NORTH Ayrshire Athletic Club had four runners at the annual Kilmarnock Harriers cross country race which is held over one of the toughest courses in the West of Scotland.
U11 girls Demi Orr and Louise Duncan had raced the previous day at Irvine Beach Park in the North Ayrshire schools event, finishing first and second respectively. Both girls were hoping to do well at Kilmarnock, but the opposition would be much tougher with several quality athletes from Glasgow and Renfrewshire in the race.
Demi and Louise got off to good starts and were well placed at the half way stage. Demi was in the lead with Louise in the following pack and, as the field but stretched out in the final run-in Demi finishing strongly to claim first place with a time of seven minutes 21 seconds with Louise not far behind in 12th spot in 7.50.
U13 girl Jill Taylor also has a good run finishing 24th in 15.21 while U15 boy Gordon Wilson, who is just getting back to his best form. finished 19th in 21.12 – a good performance that he can build on for the coming races.
