Irvine girls do Ayrshire Harriers proud

ONCE again a number of Irvine Athletic Club youngsters were chosen for the Ayrshire Harriers team which competed in the Scottish Young Athletes Division One League fixture at Wishaw.

Unfortunately there were a number of call-offs, mostly due to athletes having to do last minute studying and injury problems,.

However the sunny conditions helped produce some outstanding performances, especially from Caitlin Lee who posted 14.34 seconds for the 100m and a 14.91 for the 75m hurdles.

Ashley McQueen also continued to improve in the 300m with a good time of 46.46 while Leanne Bingham had a good long jump, clearing 4.17m.

The Ayrshire team finished sixth overall which was a good result for only its second outing of the season.

The last match on July 5 will be crucial with the team needing to finish fourth or above to qualify for the Scottish finals.
