TOP gun David Millar made it three in a row when he again claimed the senior club championship crown as Irvine Athletic Club’s top performers were presented with their trophies at the Club Championship Awards Night.
The champions are decided by members submitting their best times over six races they have competed in during the season.
Athletes can choose from any running events ranging from 800m through to the marathon and their times at different distances are awarded points using a special comparison matrix.
The senior club champion for the third year in a row was David Millar who was presented with the Willie Fulton Tray, and he needed a strong submission, consisting of three 10ks, two 10 miles and one two mile event to beat an almost equally good set of results from second-placed Alex Allardyce.
The Over 40 veteran category was won by Dougie Connery who was awarded the Sloan Trophy after an outstanding first season as a veteran which was crowned when he was selected for the Scottish Veterans Team at the British Masters Cross Country Championships in Swansea.
His club championship winning total was made up of one 10 mile, one half marathon, one two mile and three 10ks, including a win at the Scottish Veterans Championships in Glasgow.
Defending over 40 champion, George Irving, was runner up.
The Over 50 veteran category proved to be an extremely close affair with Jim White just pipping Mike Flinn. to the title.
Jim has only recently begun to recover his best form and his championship win along with his victory in the Club Christmas Handicap should give him renewed confidence for 2009.
