Christmas races no handicap for Irvine youngsters

IRVINE Athletic Club’s young runners put up a good show at the annual Christmas Handicap races on Sunday.

The race was run round the town’s Low Green for the first time with one lap of 900m for the U11s and two laps of 1800m for the other age groups.

The U11girls’ race was won by Demi Orr in three minutes 32 seconds, followed by Alexandra Dalgoutte and Elizabeth Dalgoutte, while in the boys’ race Ian Wilson was first in 3.25 with Ross Collier second.

The U13 girls’ race was won by Amy Kerr in 9.08 with Jill Taylor just behind in 9.17. Lauren Hollis was third in 10.30 followed by Ashley Lawson in 10.40.

The U13 boys’ race was the closest of the day with Chris Jenks, who travelled over from Brodick for the event, winning in a good time of 7.23, closely followed by Gordon Wilson in 7.27 then Kian Douglas, third in 7.33 and Mathew Montgomery fourth in 8.08.

In the U15 girls’ race Allison Hughes won in a good time of 8.18 with Stephanie Dalgoutte second in 9.19.

The annual New Year Beith Road takes place on Friday, January 2, registration at Kilbirnie Ladeside football ground and the first race – for the U11s – starts at 1pm.
