BARASSIE'S Jack McDonald was only two strokes away from a second SGU Junior Tour win of the season at Brunston Castle on Saturday. he returned scores of 76 and 74 for a six over par total of 150, two shots behind joint winners Ian Redford (St Andrews New) and Stuart Boyle (Harburn).

Marc Smith (Welbeck) tied 21st on 160 while David Wilson (Welbeck) was 34th on 168. The final SGU Tour event of the season takes place at Kilmarnock (Barassie) on June 14.

AYRSHIRE boys champion Scott Brown (Turnberry) is through to the first round of the Ayrshire Junior Champion of Champions trophy after a one hole prelim round win over Gary Patterson at Ballochmyle.

Craig Goodwin (Loudoun) also progressed after Routenburn failed to nominate a representative.

With the loss of St Meddans from league competitions this year, Ross Black (Ardeer) received a bye into the quarter-finals.
