Deadly Chris Zoks it to ’em at the double

Glenafton 3 Irvine Meadow 1

MEADOW'S title hopes took a severe dent as early goals from Craig Feroz and Chris Zok sent Glens on their way to the top of the table.

With both teams level as they went into the game this was a real six-pointer and only a good intervention by defender Gordon Moffat prevented Meadow from creating a first-minute scoring chance.

However the opener took just five minutes to arrive and it was a real disaster for visiting keeper Michael Wardrope with Craig Feroz spotting his former teammate off his line and sending in a lob which sailed over the head of the stranded Wardrope on its way into the unguarded net.

Worse was to follow three minutes later when Zok beat his marker on the edge of the box and lashed a fierce angled drive past the helpless keeper to make it 2-0.

It was all Glens at this stage and Jamie Doyle was only inches away with a header which flew just wide before Meadow finally dragged themselves back into the game, and the Irvine outfit were thrown a lifeline just before the break when Chris Strain's left wing cross found the unmarked Steven Swift who headed home.

Meadow had the wind at their backs after the break and, as they went for broke, home keeper Chris Fahey pulled off a great save from Gareth Turner then he was called into action again to deny Andy McLaren and Brian McGinty in quick succession.

The visitors continued to exert pressure on the Glens defence but, just when it looked as if they must equalise, they were dealt a killer blow ten minutes from time when a lightning left wing raid ended with the ball being squared to dangerman Zok and he made no mistake with a first time effort

Feroz almost rubbed salt into the wounds in the dying seconds but this time Wardrope was equal to his shot and Glens had to settle for the 3-1 win.
