Ayr County set for last eight spot

AYR County carried on their winning ways by beating Dumbartonshire East 118-110 at Yoker on Saturday.

Results (Ayr County first): D. Conway 20, G. McCartney 16; J. Hume 22, T. now look McCartney 13; J. Fleming 18, G. Tait 19; G. Peacock 22, W. Sommerville 18; H. McCrindle 24, J. Wilson 14; J. Gribben 12, G. Stalker 30.

Ayr County now look certain of qualifying having won all five games played, but Lanarkshire have also got the same record.

The teams meet each other in a fortnight but a win for County next week will ensure they qualify for the quarter finals.

The top two teams go through from the section but others are close behind awaiting a slip from either.

Ayr County play Dumfriesshire at Girdle Toll at 2pm on Saturday with the folowing squad.

AYRSHIRE slipped up against Dumbartonshire West on Saturday, losing 126-124 in a hard fought game.

Results (Ayrshire first): J. Carswell 29, K. Tait 16; C. Smith 18, J. Hardie 18; G. Johnstone 15, N. Anderson 25; D. Watson 17, A. McLeod 23; G. Hood 22, K. Paton 29; G. Campbell 23, S. Banks 15.

Although losing their perfect record, Ayrshire remain joint top in their league section, sharing the lead with Stirling West.

Both have eight points from five games played with Dumbartonshire West and Lanarkshire in third place with six points.

This week Ayrshire play Stirling West with Dumbarton playing Lanarkshire, and the following week Ayrshire play Lanarkshire with Dumbarton playing Stirling.

Depending on results, any two of the four could qualify for the next stage of the championship.
