Irvine Rugby Club on dangerous ground

WHAT looked like a comfortable trip to Ellon on Saturday has now turned into a dangerous clash for Irvine Rugby Club.

The Maroons expected to travel north on Friday night with high hopes of returning home with full points the following afternoon. But that all changed when lowly Ellon, who were trailing 11-5 at high-flying Morgan, staged a late comeback to win 12-11 and turn this weekend’s clash with the Marress Men into a real relegation dogfight.

A win on Saturday would put Irvine well clear of their opponents and coach John McHarg will have his men well fired up for what is now a crunch encounter.
