Major search for six hillwalkers

A major search operation has been launched for six hillwalkers who failed to return from an expedition in the Scottish Highlands on Sunday.

The group were out walking in the Cairngorm mountain range when they went missing, prompting a large-scale search involving police, mountain rescue teams and sniffer dogs.

It was launched on Sunday night and recommenced on Monday morning.

Northern Constabulary has drafted in the help of officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, as well as search and rescue dogs and mountain rescue members from the Lake District and Ogwen Valley in Wales, who are thought to have been training in the area.

Mountain rescue teams from the Cairngorms, Dundonnell, Braemar and RAF Leuchars and Lossiemouth are also assisting.
