Comic book writer receives MBE

Innovative Scottish comic book writer Grant Morrison, famous for his Batman graphic novel Arkham Asylum, has received an MBE for services to film and literature.

The 52-year-old, who lives near Glasgow and spends four months a year in Los Angeles, collected his MBE from the Prince of Wales.

He said: "He asked me about comics, and said he used to like reading the Eagle in the 1950s.

"I would like to think the award is for the work I've been doing in America - it's mostly British people who have changed the complexion of American comics, which has influenced the movies and TV, and expanded the sphere of British imagination."

He was completing a father-and-son double as his father, Walter, received an MBE from the Queen in 1998 for his community work.

"It's kind of weird that we got it for completely different things," he said.

"My father died a few years ago but I have his MBE safe."
