Stage stars will give drama contest judges the silent treatment
A KILWINNING drama group is on its way to winning a top award with a play based on MIME.
Abbey Youth drama club, based in the town’s Abbey Church Hall, are busy competing in the Scottish Drama Association SCAD contest.
The 17-strong group landed second place last year and are hoping to beat that this year with their production, The Code of The West, which, apart from the narrator, uses predominantly mime.
And starring as the leading lady is Kilwinning Academy pupil, 15-year-old Victoria Black.
Set in the wild west, the silent movie style play is light-hearted and guaranteed to make competition judges smile.
In February, the group, who meet on a Sunday night under the supervision of director Melanie Reid, won the first stage of the competition in The Palace Theatre, in Kilmarnock.
And now, they are heading to Arbroath on June 20 when they represent the West of Scotland.
To raise funds they organised a coffee morning at Kilwinning’s Erskine Church Hall on Saturday, May 30.
