Keep your pipes cosy this winter

SCOTTISH Water is advising customers in Irvine and Kilwinning to wrap up their pipes as well as their presents this Christmas.

The utility giant say protecting pipes will help avoid the agony of a burst which could potentially ruin carpets, furniture and bedding – and the festive season.

Director of Communications, Chris Wallace said a few simple tips can help heat, insulate and protect homes.

These include leaving heating on at low temperatures, checking loft insulation, and for leaks at taps and valves.

“There’s no telling when a cold snap might bite as we have been seeing in some areas across Scotland already this month,” Chris said.

“We want homeowners to get prepared now so that they can enjoy the festive season and that's why we are urging them to start thinking about protecting their pipes now. There can be nothing more chilling than coming home to find your home ankle-deep in freezing water and your furniture, carpets and beds all ruined because of a burst pipe.”
