Kilwinning family want action or their deposit back

A FAMILY of four have been forced to live in cramped lodgings for almost a year as they battle to get work started on their dream home.

Just over 12 months ago Kevin Meek paid Barratt Homes a £12,500 deposit for a luxury house on the Grangewood Estate in Dalry Road, Kilwinning.

But since then not a blow has been struck on the site of the luxury £¼-million, five-bedroom detached villa, and Kevin, his wife and two daughters have been forced to move into digs in Dalry.

"This was to be the house of our dreams," said 42-year-old Kevin, who works at DSM – the former Roche factory – in Dalry.

"We were promised all sorts of things but the blunt truth is that after a year work has not started, there's no prospect of the house being built and Barratt have refused to give me my deposit back.

"We'd all be delighted to see the house built, but Barratt have done nothing and, apart from saying they're laying off workers, they've offered no explanation.

"I realise now they probably won't start work on the house, but at least if they gave me my deposit back I'd be able to start looking elsewhere."

No-one from Barratt was available to discuss what the problems were although a spokesman said they were in discussions with Mr Meek to see how they could best resolve the matter to everyone's satisfaction.
