Ouch, my legs hurt.
But for everyone who has embarked on a new fitness regime, I’m sure you will understand what I mean when I say it’s a good pain – the kind that reaffirms that you have been working very hard.
So my legs hurt and I’m glad.
Here’s why.
My mate Kev bought himself the Insanity home fitness programme but found that his motivation to do it was a little lackluster, so he did what anyone would do in his situation, he phoned me and asked if I would let him do the sessions at my Studio in Saltcoats. I agreed to go along and help them out with it.
Lovers of group exercise sessions will understand that it’s a lot easier to get through a class if you have other like-minded people around you all in the same boat and striving to get fit just like you are.
Now as I am writing this column I am on day six, resting on day seven and getting ready for day eight.
Interestingly enough, when we arrived at the Studio for day one, we were quite excited by the prospect of what we were doing so when the DVD started we threw ourselves headlong into the Fitness test.
By day two we were ready for real action and again our motivation was high as we were greeted by some new friends eager to attend.
Now that was tough and the most challenging day so far but oddly, and against what I thought would happen, everyone was still highly motivated even though the muscles were getting very tired.
Luckily day four was cardio recovery day that requires the participants to concentrate on core work and stretching, so our aching muscles had a little break.
Day five returned us to the madness of the programme and on the seventh day we rested.
The Studio team now taking part in the experiment has grown bigger and amazingly the group has really bonded.
In my years of working within the industry this experiment is proving to be one of my most ambitious but fulfilling tasks ever.
This band of friends have been thrown together through a desire to improve their quality of life and it is inspiring and motivating.
So let’s hear it for the Insanity team but also each and every one of you reading this out there who attends classes with me every week – take a bow because you have climbed that mountain and made the decision to embrace your fitness classes and make them part of your life.
And that’s why I’m glad my legs hurt.
Oh and remember a date for your diary fitness fans.
I’m busy organising the first North Ayrshire Fitness Convention on Saturday, April 6 at Ardrossan Civic Centre from 9am.
It’s going to be fantastic with all the best fitness instructors in the area involved.
Get in touch now if you need a ticket as they are selling fast.
