Friends plan to conquer every Munro in 37 days

A Stevenston man and his friend are set to attempt a hillwalking world record.

Calum Paterson, 23, and his walking buddy Paul Wilson, 29, from West Kilbride, will attempt to climb all of Scotland’s 282 Munros – and one recently demoted Munro – in 37 days, in a mammoth fundraising effort.

Calum and Paul were inspired by their ill mothers to attempt the feat. Calum’s mother suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, while Paul’s mum has a rare eye condition affecting her sight. All of the proceeds raised will go to MS Society Scotland and Royal Blind.

The duo will travel across 1600 miles of Scotland’s toughest terrain to conquer every Munro – the equivalent of climbing 130 vertical miles or climbing Mount Everest 30 times, in a little over a month.

To make things even more difficult for the pair, motorised transport is banned.
