Edinburgh’s best-kept secret, OK Social Club, have been announced for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay street party this year – this weekend they’re heading to Irvine for their first headline show in the town.
The band –consisting of Raff Eragona, Chris Finn, Gordy Burn and Jordan Harvey – have had too many career highlights to mention, including being on MTV and fending off Futureheads to win Steve Lamacq’s Rebel playlist.
The Irvine Herald had a chat with the band’s singer and guitarist, Raff to see what Irvine locals can expect from an OK Social Club gig.
“I’m sure we ended up in Irvine one night this year but I can’t remember why,” Raff says.
“It will be our first gig here yes, we’ve played nearby but not in Irvine.”
He goes on: “Our gigs are pretty unpredictable, personally I really get off on the energy of the crowd, if we played to 10,000 people who didn’t want to hear us then it wouldn’t faze me.
“But if we play to 40 people who like our songs already or are genuinely interested in giving us a chance then I will lose myself in it, unfortunately I can’t fake it.
Burnsfest will take place this weekend at The Burns on Saturday, December 15 with two stages and over 20 acts performing on the day.
Raff says it means a lot for the band to headline a big show outside of their hometown.
“Well it’s pretty humbling when you consider the four of us only started playing together last summer. We’re just happy to be on the bill to be honest it’s really great to play a well run event that the promoters care about.”
If you’d like to catch OK Social Club when they play Irvine at Burnsfest on Saturday, December 15 at The Burns, tickets are priced at £12 on the door. For more information search ‘Burnsfest’ on Facebook.
