Townhouse protest over Magnum proposals

A stronghold of protesters gathered outside Irvine’s iconic Townhouse last weekend to protest plans to move the Magnum to the Townhouse site.

Members of the Save the Magnum campaign hoisted signs and placards on Saturday, November 3, and voiced their dismay at North Ayrshire Council and Irvine Bay Regeneration Company plans to downsize the leisure centre and move it into the town centre.

The group’s peaceful protest was an opportunity for members of the public to sign a petition to save the ailing Magnum centre.

Members of the campaign have expressed concern about safety and parking, with regards to a new Magnum in the town centre.

The vast majority of the group would prefer to see the existing Magnum refurbished in its current location.

The next Save the Magnum Campaign public meeting will take place at the Ship Inn on Thursday, November 8 at 7pm.
