Baby should stay in the corner

I’ve started taking dance lessons.

I was so inspired by lovely Laila Mitcenko who featured in our series of dance moves that, when she announced she was running classes, I thought I would take the plunge.

Hmmm, Darcy Bussell I ain’t.

As a girl who grew up thinking all dancers lived their lives like Baby and Johnny from Dirty Dancing, it always seemed a very glamorous and sexy career choice.

I know in reality it is a tough industry that requires dedication and commitment.

Its also true that a few gin and tonics and I am convinced I could be performing on Strictly Come Dancing, but really, I have two left feet.

A lot of enthusiasm, but it seems not enough talent.

I have to admit, I was envious of the people who were there with a partner, though teacher Laila, who makes it look effortless, took time to be mine for the night.

Boy can she move, it’s amazing to watch.

Last week, it was Samba, lots of counting, bum wiggling and concentration but by the end of the night, I could do three moves.

It’s definitely going to be baby steps.
