AN IRVINE cafe owner was left with no body hair after he took part in a marathon waxing session.
Davie McIlroy, who owns Tiffany’s Cafe in the town’s Eglinton Street raised a staggering £1500 after persuading his son Sean and his male friends to take part.
It’s all part of Davie’s New Year resolution to raise £10,000 for the Beatson Cancer Institute in memory of his late mum, Sadie.
And so far this year, he’s been bag-packing in Tesco, organised a dinner dance at Irvine’s Volunteer Rooms and hopes to reach his dream target by the middle of the year.
“I’ve been left with no hair on my arms, my legs, under my armpits and even my eyebrows have been waxed,” said Davie, of Livingstone Terrace.
“It was worth it though as we raised £1500. That’s given our fund a real boost.”
Davie realises £10,000 is a lot to collect but he’s determined to do it for his mum, who passed away 25 years ago.
He went on: “I decided it was time I did something to remember my mum,“ said Davie.
“So, after speaking to my sisters, we agreed that raising money for the Beatson was a good course of action as it could help patients receive vital treatment.
“It’s an amazing place and while my mum lost her battle with ovarian cancer 25 years ago, you never know that with the advances that have been made nowadays, she could have been given more treatment.
“I’ll just keep going till I reach the target.”
