Irvine bus depot ear-marked for Sikh Temple
AMBITIOUS plans are under way to transform a former bus garage into a Sikh temple.
The temple is expected to be big enough for a congregation of around 500 worshippers.
The plans, being put together by Irvine businessmen, have still to be put forward to North Ayrshire Council.
They include a community centre incorporated into the site.
The move for the new temple has not come from the Ayrshire Sikh Association.
One member, who asked not to be named, said: “As far as I understand, there will be a Sikh temple in Bank Street.
“It is being set up by businessmen in the town and at the moment the Ayrshire Sikh Association is not directly involved.
“There will be a place of worship and a centre attached to the temple too.”
Businessman Baldev Singh, who is believed to be involved, was unavailable for comment as we went to press.
