Rainbow kids recycle scheme
TWO youngsters in Kilwinning have masterminded a new recycling scheme in their nursery.
Four-year-olds Keira Thomson and Meghan Campbell now run the Rainbow Cottage Recycling Depot.
Little Keira was inspired by her mum who takes plastic bottle tops to Loudoun-Montgomery Primary in Irvine where they are recycled to help buy wheelchairs for children.
So, Keira and Meghan asked Shona Gillespie at Rainbow Cottage if they could have their very own recycling centre and she agreed it was a good idea.
Shona said: “We are working on the environment as part of our Curriculum for Excellence studies and we were all thrilled when Keira and Meghan came up to ask about the recycling depot.
“All the children are now busy bringing in their bottle tops for us to recycle.
“We’re wanting to make sure the children reduce, reuse and recycle.”
