Dreghorn librarian's honorary doctorate

A LIBRARIAN from Dreghorn has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University he served for 20 years.

Stuart James was honoured by the University of the West of Scotland at its graduation ceremony in Paisley on Thursday.

Professor Seamus McDaid, University Principal and Vice Chancellor, said Stuart had made a hugely important contribution to the University.

Stuart joined Paisley College in 1978 as Depute Librarian. He was promoted to Chief Librarian in 1989 and after the granting of university status in 1992 was University Librarian until his retiral in 2007.

Stuart commissioned and published the official history of the former University of Paisley and Paisley Technical College, Forward by Degrees by Evelyn Hood. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. He was President of the Scottish Library Association in 2001.
