BIG-HEARTED North Ayrshire Council staff beat their charity target by FIVE times the original amount to raise an astonishing £2000 for Cash for Kids.
The team only expected to hit £400 but tickets for their prize draw just sold and sold.
Ainslie Aitken, one of the organisers, said: “It just seemed to grow arms and legs.
“Before we knew it, people were baking cakes for us to sell, local businesses were donating fantastic prizes and there was even a week-long holiday in Turkey up for grabs.
Ainslie and colleagues Marie McCormick, Joanne Campbell and Nicola Dowling from the finance section chose the West Sound Radio charity which plans to raise £25,000 for a musical sensory garden at Malcolm Sargent House in Prestwick.
They settled on the project after hearing a touching radio appeal by the parents of a brave six-year-old girl who has sight problems caused by a tumour.
Ainslie added: “You couldn’t help but be touched by Poppy’s story. We felt we just wanted to do something for the wee girl and the little ones like her.”
