IRVINE singer Eddi Reader has penned a new song to show her backing for the “Keep Johnnie Walker in Kilmarnock” campaign.
The new song slates the greed of Diageo, accusing them of putting money over the loyalty of the Kilmarnock workforce.
In her internet blog, the talented Ayrshire-born star writes: “Johnnie Walker is the world’s leading branch of Scotch whisky, the Red Label being the world’s best-selling whisky.
“Johnnie Walker was established in Kilmarnock in 1820 and has been connected with the town ever since. Every bottle bears the town’s name.
“History plays a major part in the appeal of whisky, but it would appear Diageo places no value on that history, or the loyalty shown to the brand by the community of Kilmarnock for almost 200 years.”
Eddie is supported by The Trashcan Sinatras, featuring her brother Frank, plus Govan philosopher Rab C Nesbit, aka Gregor Fisher.
