Dreghorn residents urged to have say on new school site

CENTRAL Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe is canvassing public opinion on plans to build a new primary school in Dreghorn to replace the current “unsuitable” building in the middle of the village.

He wants to hear views on the four proposals currently being considered by North Ayrshire Council.

Possible locations include the current site in Main Street, the former Dreghorn Juniors football pitch, the rear of the existing school or next to Greenwood Academy. Mr Donohoe says the villagers themselves are the best placed to make their views known.

He said: “There will be meetings about this over the coming weeks but in the first instance I want to be able to make a reasoned case to the council based on the knowledge of those whom I represent and who know Dreghorn best – its residents.”
