St Winning’s pupils open their own bank

SMART pupils at St Winning’s Primary are banking on success with their latest venture.

The pupils have launched their own school bank in partnership with The Royal Bank of Scotland.

Financial education managers from the bank worked closely with teachers and pupils to launch the bank on Wednesday.

The school bank is part of School Money – the school bank from RBS, which helps teachers and pupils set up a school bank in primary and secondary schools.

Pupils who are working in the school bank have received training in reading financial documents, listening to instructions, completing pay-in slips and keeping accurate financial records.

And customers – the pupils – will learn how to operate their own bank account, and students will be issued with their own bank card and account number.

Teachers can apply for a school bank through www.rbs.com/schoolmoney.

RBS Moneysense Manager Lindsey Walker said: “The pupils have worked extremely hard to get the bank up and running and the experience that they gain will help them develop the financial management skills they will need as they get older.”
