Whitehirst Park Primary

P1A had a very busy week finding out about firework safety. Lots of excitement in the class when we made paper rocket kites.

l P1B environmental studies topic is well under way. The children have been looking at different types of animals. Our house corner has been transformed into a veterinary surgery and lots of our active learning in the next few weeks will involve getting to know animals in and around our environment.

l P1/2 were making fiery firework pictures this week and learning about how to keep safe at a firework display.

l Our school secretary, Mrs McAtee, visited us this week to tell us about her job. She's a very busy lady. P2 were very impressed.

l P2/3 enjoyed their trip to the fire station. They had lots of fun playing with the hoses, sitting in the fire engine and learned a lot about the work done by fire fighters.

l P4 have really enjoyed starting their new topic Ancient Egyptians. So far we have learned about the river Nile and the pyramids. The challenge is on in P4B to find the times table champions. So far, Lewis is our champion with a time of 15 seconds.

l P6 have been researching the history of bonfire night and discovered many interesting facts. They also made sure that they know how to be safe on firework night. They made posters and booklets to tell other children about being safe and wrote firework poems.

l P7A and P7B visited the North Ayrshire World War II museum. This excursion was planned to celebrate the end of a fabulous ACE topic.

l Would parents note the school closes at 3.15pm on Wednesday, November 11, as Thursday is an in-service day and Friday and Monday are local holidays. Pupils and staff return on Tuesday, November 17.
