A GROUP of Senior students, along with Miss Roberts, attended a Business Enterprise dinner at the Park Hotel on Monday, December 8.
The dinner, sponsored by Citi, included talks from an alumnus of the Tom Hunter Group, who spoke about her bridge year and her involvement in charities and different activities at home and abroad, and a business woman who owns four of her own Domino’s Pizza’s.
The event was attended by many schools, and provided a chance to talk to different business people and learn about different aspects of business. The group were commended on their good behaviour. Another group of Senior students, this time accompanied by Mrs Lamont, took part in the North Ayrshire Christmas Dance Competition at Auchenharvie Academy on Tuesday, December 9. The group, Sophie Campbell, Sara Easton. Heather McCallum, Robyn McLaren, Nicola Miller and Nadine Marwick, had choreographed their own routine to the judges, two instructors from Y Dance. All teams that took part did exceptionally well. The Kilwinning Academy team came in first place, with St Matthew’s and Ardrossan Academy taking second and third place.
n THE THIRD Year under 15s boys’ team played a terrific game against Auchenharvie Academy, with the final score 6-0 to the Kilwinning team. Mr Crozier, who accompanied the boys, stated “It was a very good team effort, and the boys were a credit to themselves and the school”.
n THE COMMON Room Gig took place on Thursday, December 11. Bands that played included Our Farm, This Kid Kokiak, Chemical Warfare, I’ve Got My Eye On You Fletch and P.C. Gone Mad. The show was a success, with everyone who went thoroughly enjoying themselves.
n THE SIXTH Year, along with Mrs Cruickshank, Mr Barlow, and Mrs Black all made the trip to the Pavilion in Glasgow to see their pantomime, ‘The Wizard of Never Oz’ on Friday December 12. Everyone was decorated with tinsel and Santa Hats, and the tuneful (hah!) group sang the whole way there and back. Again everyone who went was credited for their good behaviour and thanks go to the teachers who accompanied them, and to Mrs Cruickshank, who organised the trip.
n THE FISHING Club held an outing at Cowan’s Law on Sunday, November 30. Six hardy pupils enjoyed a fine but extremely cold days fishing. With half of the loch covered in ice the fish proved hard to catch. James Keegans and William Montgomery were successful however, both catching one fish each. Mr Barlow out-fished Mr Cuthbert again, four fish to two. The last outing of 2008 will take place at Craufurdland Fishery on Sunday, December 21.
n CONGRATULATIONS to Jenna Breen of class 5.5, who, after some tough heats reached the final of West FM’s Xmas Factor Competition. The final took place at Rivergate Mall and Jenna had two excellent performances singing ‘Crazy’ and ‘All I want for Christmas is You’. Jenna was cheered on by an army of fans from Kilwinning Academy and was narrowly beaten in what was a very tough competition.
