Watch out for the Dreghorn speed sign

DOZY roads workers pitched a twenty’s plenty sign underneath a tree - making it invisible to drivers.

The speed sign - erected outside Greenwood Academy for the start of the new term - is entirely obscured by branches.

Red-faced council chiefs this week admitted they will have to cut the tree back.

Bemused Dreghorn councillor John Moffat said he has written to North Ayrshire Council’s roads boss Ronnie Small for an explanation.

He said: “How anyone ever thought this would be a good place for the sign I’ll never know.

“Common sense appears to have gone out the window.

“What’s the point in a road sign if you can’t see it?

“What should have been a simple job will now result in a needless waste of money.”

A spokesman for North Ayrshire Council said:”We are aware of the problem.

“Instructions have been issued to cut the overgrown trees back as a matter of urgency.”
