Drivers face more Kilwinning roadworks misery

DRIVERS going through Kilwinning face more delays as the roadworks at Dalry Road are set to continue for another month.

The works, originally set to be finished by the time the schools went back, will now be finished in October – two months behind schedule.

The town has been thrown into chaos since the £1.2 million roadworks began in Dalry Road with the town centre becoming a bottleneck.

Amey, the company who manage the roads throughout Scotland, say the delay has come due to heavy rainfall and “unseen engineering challenges,” though they claim disruption has been minimal for commuters.

Amey spokesman, Willie Watson said: “With the schools now back from their summer break there is a noticeable difference in the amount of traffic on the A737.

“While works are currently moving towards the north end of the town we would ask residents and commuters using this route to observe the traffic management in place.

“Restrictions on vehicles wider than 2.5 metres and heavier than 7.5 tonnes will remain in place until the project is complete.”

But drivers, who have been caught in the convoy chaos say the end of the roadworks can’t come soon enough.

One told the Irvine Herald: “I just don’t drive through that area if I can avoid it, who can afford to sit in a queue for half an hour.

“At one time the lights at the top of Dalry Road were out and no-one knew what to do.

“It’s no good for the town and no good for drivers.”
