Inspectors praise Dreghorn and Kilwinning nursing homes

TWO local nursing homes have received glowing inspection reports from the Care Commission.

Shalom in Dreghorn and Buckreddan in Kilwinning were rated “very good” for quality of care, support, environment, staffing, management and security.

Inspectors visited both homes in August and found service users and relatives were more than satisfied with the care and support on offer.

Shalom was praised for holding regular meetings for residents and relatives and involving both in care planning.

Inspectors also identified Shalom’s access to independent advocacy and regular six month reviews as key strengths.

Buckreddan was commended for involving service users and relatives in the care process via regular relatives’ forums and resident meetings, monthly newsletters and six-monthly questionnaires.

The Care Commission also found residents at both homes were positive about the quality of staff.

Inspectors said staff at Shalom treated residents with the utmost care and respect, with excellent one-to-one care.

The management at both homes also came in for praise for making themselves accessible to service users and relatives. Buckreddan bosses regularly involved both in decision-making and were readily available for face to face discussions, inspectors found.

Other local nursing homes to receive positive reports this year include Abbeyfield House in Irvine and Todhill Country Centre in Stevenston.

Abbeyfield was rated good for quality of care, staffing, management and security and very good for environment.

Todhill scored very good for care, environment and staffing and good for management.
