Kilwinning cleans up

Volunteers in Kilwinning rolled up their sleeves to clean up the town as part of the annual Promoting Kilwinning campaign.

Joe Broussard of Promoting Kilwinning said: “It was the biggest and best clean-up event ever. We had the biggest turnout and collected over 40 bags of litter.”

Leading the way were the members of the 19th Ayrshire Scouts, Cubs and the 2nd Kilwinning Boys’ Brigade.

MPs Katy Clark and Brian Donohoe, and councillors Donald Reid, Robert Steel and Joe Cullinane, helped make up the 60-strong army of volunteers.

During day one they cleaned the river walkway on both sides of the Bridgend bridge, parts of Almswall Park, the area around Nethermains Community Centre, Ladyford Avenue, the Main Street and surrounding streets.

And one resident was so impressed she handed in £10 to the group to buy some crisps and juice for the young BBs and volunteers on the day too.
