Karen Simpson is a smart-minded Irvine businesswoman who runs SimpsInns with husband Malcolm.
In between running The Gailes Hotel, The Waterside, The Old Loans Inn and The Riverside, the busy mum-of-two tries to find time for friends and her love of music.
Why do you do what you do?
It was almost 21 years ago that I decided on a career change and moved from the travel industry into hospitality with my husband Malcolm. We have never looked back.
Do you have a best friend?
I do, she is called Josie and we have been best friends since I started with Whitbread 21 years ago. I should also add that I have a lot of really good friends but Josie is my rock.
What three things would you take to a desert island?
I would love to take Malcolm and my two boys but if family wasn’t allowed, I would take some wine, some music and possibly my Zumba teacher Louie Fecou as we could dance the days away.
What’s your favourite song?
This is an easy question as I love music, it’s the one thing that keeps me going, I love a good tune.
My favourite is Follow Me, Follow You by Genesis, that’s definitely my funeral song.
Do you have any regrets?
I think regrets is such a severe word. I really believe that life is all about experiences and learning from them, that has certainly been my motto.
Who has been your biggest influence?
My husband Malcolm drives me forward every day. I am a realist but he often shows me that a little imagination and believing in your dreams is important and I love that about him.
