Advice is skin deep

Another quickie, if you read Sarah’s slimming column, you will have seen the question she posed to me about tightening loose skin after losing a lot of weight.

The speed we lose weight at can be a factor, it is often more desirable to lose weight slowly as our skin has a chance to cope with the loss. However, as we grow older we naturally lose tension in our skin and this too can be a factor when losing weight.

How long you have been overweight is also an issue that we have to look at as the longer our skin is being stretched the less chance it has of snapping back to its normal state after weight loss.

I’m afraid every person is different and there really is no clear cut answer but my advice would be to remember to try and keep your muscles toned as part of your fitness regime too as this will help when you reach your weight loss goals.
